Fragrance manufacturer Inter Parfums Inc. (Coach, Dunhill, Karl Lagerfeld, Montblanc, Salvatore Ferragamo, etc.) got tired of waiting for product that was tied up in Shanghai. Even though it’s more expensive the company is shifting to domestic U.S. production to insure a smooth supply chain. One year ago 30% of its filling and assembly work was based in the U.S. Today it is 70% and it plans to make it 100% by 2024.
The WSJ piece has some photos that accurately portray the reality of the fragrance business. As I like to say: the industry’s glamor is all in Manhattan but the real work gets done in the Meadowlands.

Not that you’d ever find me in a Starbucks, but the description of their new breakfast chicken sandwich (“breaded white-meat chicken, fluffy eggs and a maple butter spread on a toasted oat-biscuit roll”) was enough to make me queasy.
If maple butter schmeered on a toasted oat-biscuit roll [Is it a biscuit or a roll? Pick one.—Ed.] appeals to you, well . . . you’re too late. The WSJ says the sando, “meant to be a savory and sweet combo that would appeal to summer customers” was withdrawn within days of launch due to “quality concerns.”
The New York Post ran the story a day earlier and, as usual, gave readers a more down-to-earth account:
Starbucks quietly yanked new chicken sandwich after it gave customers diarrhea
Bon appétit!
