Yes, indeed. Similar idea although they used old school rules against garlic, perfume, deodorant, etc. I have great respect for Noam Sobel--he constantly explores new territory with inventive methods.
Here his lab collected BO via T-shirts of same-sex non-romantic friends. Human raters & an electronic nose found that BO of friends was more similar smelling that that of randomly paired people.
